Tips and Decorating Ideas for Buying a Bed Skirt

Bed Skirts are designed to hide a bed’s box springs or foundation.   An additional benefit is that a bed skirt on a bed allows you to use the space under the bed to store things out of sight but easily accessible.

For home décor, a bed skirt offers a way to add style, pattern, and color to the bedroom.

A bed skirt can be tailored with pleats or a flat panel, gathered into ruffles, or combining several layers of coordinating fabrics.

When you’re planning to buy a bed skirt for your bed, there are several things to consider.

SIZEDon’t just guess that your queen size bed is 60” wide and 80” long.  Mattresses, box springs and foundations can vary slightly in size.  It’s important to get the right size of bed skirt so that it will hang properly on your bed.      Check out our Bed Sizes & Information Tab.

DROP:  When speaking of the drop of a bed skirt, we are referring to the measurement from the top of the foundation to the floor.  Our standard measurement for our bed skirts are 14", but we also have 18" and 21" drop available for your convenience.  Please be careful when ordering your bed skirt, you do not want your bed skirt to be too high off the floor or you do not want it to drag on the floor either.

COLOR :   A Solid color bed skirt is a versatile choice for a bed skirt.  If you select a light color such as white, pink, yellow, or pastel, be sure that the bed skirt is lined or made of a heavy fabric so that light does not show through from under the bed.

Decorating Tips:

#1 If your drop is 18”, used a 18” White bed Skirt and overlay a 14” pink on top for that professionally decorated, Trendy Bed look.

#2 If you like the White eyelet, place a plain color bed skirt like a light blue, yellow, or even the deep burgundy, overlay it with the white eyelet bed skirt and pull it all together with adding some throw pillow on the bed that matches the “color” bed skirt.  For additional fun, go thru and “gather” up the eyelet bed skirt half way on each side of the bed so that the “color” is more visible and it can really give your bed that professionally decorated, Trendy Bed look.

#3 Pull a color from within your room (wall color) or a color from within your comforter and match your bed skirt and some throw pillows to that color, this simple inexpensive decorating tip could give your room just the change you were looking for.
